I HAVE THE WONDERFUL KERRIANNE COOMBES IN THE HOUSE TODAY!!!

That's right folks, Kerrianne Coombes is in my crib to answer a few probing questions and offer up an excerpt and sexy cover for her release, The One that Got Away, from Secret Cravings Publishing. So, let's get right to it. Kerrianne, are you ready?

CYN:  For any readers who may not have read any of your books, can you just give us a little sneak peak into the world you’ve created; i.e., the genre you write, type of stories you like to write, etc.?

KERRIANNE:  I write adult romances, from contemporary to fantasy paranormal. I write stories that make your heart race, with strong female characters—and men who have the potential to make you drool. ;-) I write sexiness.

CYN:  How much of yourself, if any, do you put into your characters?

KERRIANNE: I always start off thinking that I am apart from my characters, but the further into each story I go, the more I put of myself into them. I guess it’s like getting to know a new friend each time.

CYN:  How do you keep sex scenes fresh and exciting so they don't become stale or repetitive? (That is, if you write them.)

KERRIANNE:  I don’t know, I just let the characters take control. LOL Usually the characters are completely different—so naturally—the sex is too.

CYN:  Is there a story that you’d like to tell but you think the world isn’t ready to receive it?

KERRIANNE:  Yes, but it’s not the world that’s not ready—it’s me! LOL I have this great idea for a thriller, but I am scared that if I start writing it, I will think about the particular scary character in more depth—and then have nightmares for months! LOL I am a scaredy cat!

CYN:  What do you do on a typical writing day?

KERRIANNE:  Drop kids off at school, come home, make coffee and write until its time to get the kids… I get totally into it. Sometimes I have to set an alarm to go off, so I remember the kids LOL

CYN:  Do you prefer writing about perfect characters or flawed ones and why?

KERRIANNE:  FLAWED every time! They have so much more to say, think and do. Who is interested in perfect? Not me.

CYN:  When you have writer's block how do you break free?

KERRIANNE:  Walk with the dog, socialize, play with the kids. But if all else fails, I do the housework. LOL There is nothing else I hate more—it’s a motivation to un-block the block!

CYN:  From the moment you conceived the idea for the story, to the published book, how long did it take?

KERRIANNE:  Okay, The One That Got Away only took two weeks to write, then I tweaked and edited for a week—sent it to Secret Cravings In late December, it was accepted three days later…and now here it is. April 6th.

CYN:  When it comes to writing, are you an early bird, or a night owl?

KERRIANNE:  Night owl. I love the silent house feel, its perfect for my muse.

CYN:  Have you ever awakened in the night with the need to write? If so, how do you deal with this urge?

KERRIANNE:  YES—all the time! I write until my mind gives in. Last time I did this I got 7k done in one night. Very satisfying.
you could throw a party with any five people (living or dead) who would you pick and why? Pink—because I like her attitude. Channing Tatum—because I want to lick his abs. ;-) Adele—so she could sing at the party! LOVE her voice. Jack Black--to make me laugh AND Leonardo Dicaprio—for when I am done with Channing. ;-)

CYN:  What is the last line of your last WIP you worked on that you wrote?

KERRIANNE: This is from a WIP I finished just three days ago:
Sky giggled as she grappled with the buckle on her jeans “Yes I am, Jack. Yours, forever.”

CYN:  If you could be one of your characters - Who would you be? And why?

KERRIANNE:  I would be Cally from Beauty and the Beast—the Demon Tale Due out in May—because I just love Brigg (Her hero) Plus she is a princess. LOL

CYN:  What is one of your guilty pleasures to enjoy?

KERRIANNE:  Chocolate…too much *Glares at thighs*

CYN:  What are at least five things you have on your bucket list and have you done any of them?

KERRIANNE:  Skydive. Travel the United States. Learn to ride a motorbike. Learn to speak fluent French (In process now) And meet a real life vampire. ;-)

CYN:  Do you listen to music when writing? Do you feel like some stories write themselves a soundtrack with specific music? If so, what book and what kind of music influenced it?

KERRIANNE:  Nope, nothing I like total silence. I get distracted very easily! LOL

CYN:  Tell us five random things about yourself.

KERRIANNE:  I like to bake. I find tattoo’s really sexy. I like to laugh. I HATE celery EUGH! I have a terrible memory—plenty of people who know me would verify this. And I have read all of the Sherrilyn Kenyon Novels at least three times each! ;-)

Well, that was fun! So let's get to what everyone is waiting for, cover art and an excerpt.

BLURB

When William Adams is forced to return to his home village to bury his drunk, violent father, memories of his first love rise. Driven from his childhood home at eighteen, William had begged his girlfriend Cammy, to go with him. With only a bag of clothes and a twenty pound note, he had nothing to offer her, except his love and devotion. When she refused to flee with him, Will was crushed. He left his town and his first love and vowed never to return.

Ten years later, regret and unfinished business force him to rescind his vow.

Camilia Jones, pub owner and bitter singleton is stuck in a rut. Constantly hurt by the popular misconception that she is miserable and surly, and not able to move past the attack that ruined her life and left her permanently
scarred. She is tired, broken and utterly alone. When William Adams, the man who stole her heart arrives back in the village, Cammy feels her old self come back to life.

 EXCERPT:

Cammy stood before him. She seemed to stop herself from taking a step back and Will didn’t know what to say. She swallowed hard and then bit her bottom lip. Will watched with fascination, his heart hammering with the understanding that Cammy was no longer looking angry, no longer refusing to meet his gaze. She was staring right up at him, with…heat…in her eyes.
“Cammy,” he breathed. He sounded stunned, blindsided to his own ears. He stepped back and allowed her into the room, and he was utterly amazed when she smiled and followed him in. She awkwardly looked around, her gaze falling upon the bed, and Will had to fight the need that suddenly pulsed through his veins.
Not yours anymore…
“Can I get you—anything?” He coughed awkwardly when he remembered he was in a hotel room, and of course had nothing to offer—except maybe a bottle of water.
She grinned and shook her head, and then as if catching herself she dropped her gaze.
“Uh, I just wanted to—uhm…”
Will stepped closer and lifted her chin with his finger. She gasped but didn’t pull back. Her hazel eyes locked onto his and Will felt a tremor of desire roll over his spine, down his back and straight to his cock. She was beautiful.
“Don’t apologize—not to me.” His thumb stroked over her jaw. He wanted so desperately to touch her mouth, to kiss her lips until they were breathless like they used to be. But he didn’t know what she would do, and now he had her calm and gentle he wanted to keep her that way. But he still allowed his thumb to stroke her cheek.
“But I want to.” She spoke quietly. Will could still hear the desire in her voice. It was like a fire in his groin, an animal inside him that roared to get out.
Lust was painful when held back.
“Don’t.”

Thank you for honoring me and dropping by today Kerrianne. Best of luck with this new story and everyone be sure to give her some love and leave a comment.

I HAVE THE WONDERFUL RANDI ALEXANDER IN THE HOUSE TODAY!!!

Welcome Randi! I'm honored you have stopped by my crib today to introduce two of your releases. Sit back and enjoy her interview speaking with her yummy cowboys!

Speed Date My Hero - Trace McGonagall from Her Cowboy Stud
Today we have a rare opportunity to sit down with Trace McGonagall, hero of Randi Alexander's newest Cowboy Kink release, Her Cowboy Stud. We're doing this interview as a speed date, just to shake things up a bit.
Q: Welcome, Trace. Let's start out with an easy one. What do you do for work?
Trace: It's a pleasure bein' here, ma'am. I'm a rancher. I own a large horse breedin' farm outside of Houston, Texas. I work alongside my ranch hands, so I guess you could say I'm just a cowboy with land.
Q: I might have guessed that from the Stetson and the boots. What is your fairy tale?
Trace: I'm guessin' you're thinking I'd choose something with a horse in it, but I'm partial to Beauty and the Beast. I'm a rough-cut kind of man, and I've been waitin' a long time for the perfect beauty to walk into my life.
Q: What is the one thing about yourself that you would like me to know?
Trace: *grins* I like my lovin' on the aggressive side. I like to take control, and it pleases me to give my lady everything she needs to burn as hot and as wild as she can. Sometimes it's a little spanking, sometimes it's full domination. But I will make her scream with pleasure.
Q: *fans self* Well. Okay. That's…exciting. Um, changing the subject…which is your favorite movie?
Trace: I hate to be a cliché, but I grew up with my uncle watchin' every John Wayne movie ever made. They're all my favorites.
Q: Do you want to marry or have you ever been married?
Trace: Yes, ma'am, I do want to marry. Never have been. Never have come close.
Q: You mentioned you're waiting for that right lady. In the meanwhile, what do you do for fun?
Trace: Runnin' a ranch is a 24/7/365 job. If I have spare time, I'll take a ride across my land. Maybe camp out under the stars. Sometimes I get into town. Visit one of my…lady friends. *winks*
Q: Lucky friends. *winks back* What are you most proud of, Trace?
Trace: When my parents died, my uncle stepped in and raised me. I learned everything about ranchin' from him. Together, we tripled the size of the ranch, and made it a world-class breeding operation.
Q: That's impressive. So, do you believe in love at first sight?
Trace: *laughs* No. I surely do not. I'm a skeptic. I'm more likely to distrust someone first, and let them win me over later. It comes from all the years of business dealings. It takes me a while to warm up to people. Women especially.
Q: What do you think is the most important value in a relationship?
Trace: Honesty. I need to trust someone implicitly before any part of my emotions gets involved.
Q: What is your favorite music?
Trace: I like country, but I'm a fan of some metal bands, too. Some light country music sets the mood, then driving heavy metal fits right into an intense bondage session.
Q: I can definitely picture it. What is your favorite sporting activity?
Trace: *wicked grin* I'm guessing you don't consider bondage a 'sporting activity.' I've been known to sit on the front porch and listen to a Rangers game on a hot summer evening.
Q: Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Trace: I'm hoping, married. A kid or two to take to see a baseball game.
Q: You have got six months to live, what will you do first?
Trace: Damn. Ah, pardon me, ma'am. That's a tough question. I'd have to spend the days training someone to run the ranch properly. It's been in the family for generations, I'm the last of the McGonagalls, and I'd have to sell it and spend my last days preparing to leave it. *frowns* Makes me sorrowful just thinking of it.
Q: *sniffle* Sorry, Trace. Let's lighten it up a little. If you have friends coming over, what would you cook?
Trace: I'm a barbeque man. I'd slow-cook some beef ribs, mix up a gallon of slaw, and have my cook fix a crock of beans. There'd be corn on the cob and pie for dessert. A cowboy feast.
Q: If you were an animal in the wild, what would you be?
Trace: I'd want to be a wild mustang. *winks* Stallion, of course. Ranging across Texas with my herd.
Q: Kind of like your own harem. What makes you laugh or cry?
Trace: You sure do jump around with these questions, ma'am. I like to laugh at everyday things that people do. When we take ourselves so seriously, but then look back and realize it's all just human nature to make mistakes. And you know I don't cry, but it makes me sad to think of the mistreatment so many animals endure.
Q: I agree with you there, Trace. Which T.V. program would you never miss?
Trace: Any reality show.
Q: Would you like to climb a mountain or trek across a desert?
Trace: A mountain. On horseback, of course.
Q: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Trace: I've never been happier than being on the land where my family has lived, loved, and died for generations. Home is heaven to me.
Q: Very well said, Trace. Thank you for being our speed-dating interview today, and best of luck in everything.
Trace: Thank you, ma'am, and be sure to have your readers leave a comment for a chance to win a copy of Randi Alexander's book, Cowboy Bad Boys. Huh. I wonder if she was thinkin' of me when she came up with that title? *wink*

Trace McGonagall’s quiet life on his Houston stud ranch is shaken up when gorgeous Macy Veralta arrives to claim an inheritance left to her in his uncle’s will. Trace sees her as just another gold digger, but he also can’t resist her curvy body. When she hints at being the perfect submissive to his Dom, he has to have her.
Macy wouldn’t have been three months late to claim her inheritance if she’d known Trace was sin in jeans. The cowboy’s dominant bearing and the smoldering glint in his eyes send shivers to her toes and stirs images of being bound in his bed and disciplined at his hand. But could Trace’s perfect seduction be part of his plan to reclaim her inheritance?
EXCERPT: Over 18 only please.
Trace could barely restrain himself from grabbing and conquering. She embodied everything he looked for in a woman. Sweet and kind, blushing but sexy, funny and sexy. Yeah, he’d already mentioned sexy, but she was damn sexy.
It took him a moment of measured breaths to bring himself under control before he kissed her. He didn’t want to take, he wanted to give. To share a kiss, not ravage her. As he inched his lips closer to hers, she wrapped her arms around his neck and closed her eyes. Beautiful. Did he mention beautiful?
His hands slid down her sides, barely brushing the swell of her breasts, ending up on her back. His lips touched hers. Rocket fire lust shot down his spine. His cock hardened and swelled, his balls tingled, and everything in him begged to rush this, to make a bed in the hay and take her down with him.
She was precious. Worth taking his time on. He kept the kiss soft, easy, until she sighed and flicked her tongue onto his lips in invitation.
His tongue explored each crevice of her mouth, tangled with her tongue, sucking it into his mouth to invite her to taste him. Her taste—perfect—like sweet wine. He dug the fingers of one hand in her hair, feeling the silk, loving the thick, heavy texture.
His hand traveled from her back to her firm, round ass. He pulled her closer and shared her startled inhale as his cock pressed hard into her stomach. Unable to keep himself from testing her sexual tastes, he walked her back a step, pressing her against the gate. He ran his hands up her sides, along her arms, and unlinked them from around his neck. Holding her wrists, he spread her arms to her sides and pinned them to the wood plank.
Her eyelids fluttered then opened, piercing him with a seductive gaze.
"Do you like that, Macy?" He spread his feet apart, leaning the full weight of his body against hers. His cock throbbed as it engorged, feeling her heat creep through their clothes to taunt his sensitive flesh.
"I like…" she whispered, her breath panting in and out.
Trace tipped his head and spoke quietly in her ear. "What do you like?"
"I like to be held."
He grinned. That was exactly what he wanted to hear. "You like to be…restrained?"
"Yes." She turned her face away.
He leaned back to see her. Her pink cheeks and tightly closed eyes confused him at first. Until he realized she was uncertain of his reaction to her disclosure.
"Beautiful, you've found the right man."
She swung her head and looked at him, her eyes at first relieved, then heating with a tempting, teasing sexuality. "And you? What do you like?"
Kissing her, he said, "When I have you in my bed…" Another kiss. "You'll know the full intensity of my dominance."
She cried out softly, her entire body shivering along his.
Every cell in his flesh responded, pumped to bursting with desire. He took her mouth, desperate to show her what she did to him. How she made him crazy with the need to bind her and please her with stinging lashes and tight clamps. The kiss turned potent, so intense he forgot where he was, what was happening around him.

I HAVE THE WONDERFUL JACKIE M. SMITH IN THE HOUSE TODAY!!!

For those who love historical romances, I have Jackie Smith in my crib today talking about the research on her Secret Cravings Publishing release, A Soldier's Vow. See what she has to say, read the excerpt and leave her some love at the end. Without further ado, take it away Jackie . . .

Romancing Historical Details
When I first researched for my historical romance A Soldier’s Vow, I discovered so many interesting facts about the French country during one of the most terrifying periods in their long history. The German army had easily invaded the Northern part of France and often bombarded Paris but never succeeded in penetrating the city’s walls. Nonetheless, the city had been hit in other different and equally devastating ways.

Blackouts, food shortages and influenza affected everyone. Through my research, I discovered many families could no longer afford to keep their children fed, therefore they sent the weakest members of their family to their relatives in the country or other safer places. In A Soldier’s Vow, I wanted to show how the heroine Winnie Douglas saw and lived what everyone went through between 1914 and 1918 Paris. I also show how the war affected the women who stayed behind and waited for their husband, brother, cousin who joined the war effort.

The war also changed the soldiers who fought and saw firsthand the horrors and victories of war. Henry Whitfield, the hero in A Soldier’s Vow, had no idea what he would see and experience when he left his Canadian hometown. Many countries including Canada sent their strongest and bravest men overseas and fight an unknown enemy. They trained hard and fought even harder. Yet what waited for them in the trenches became their worst enemy. Rats, lice and other diseases caused the most terrible living conditions for every soldier on both sides.

Using such details in my book not only creates a setting but also brings the reader back to a time of turmoil, courage and undying love.

****************************************************************
 BLURB:

Winnie Douglas always loved taking pictures of her family and her hometown. One day, while reading a war magazine, pictures of the soldiers whose strength and courage touched her. With her family’s blessing, she journeys to Paris where a French magazine hires her to take pictures of the war. Henry Whitfield answers the call of duty and travels halfway across the world to fight in the war. Far away from his family and Canadian hometown, he feels the loneliness. On the battlefield, he meets an angel. Afraid she is just a dream, he befriends Winnie. War brought them together. Will it tear them apart?

EXCERPT:

Taking his arm, she felt his strength, but he covered her hand with gentleness. New sensations rushed throughout her body. She gazed into his eyes and saw the kindness and honesty. Yet she guarded her heart. She couldn’t give it to someone she hardly knew. But the more time she spent with him, the more she felt as though they’d known each other all her life.
They had so much in common, from books to food and dreams of having a family one day. He even made her laugh the whole time they walked. Indeed, she felt comfortable with him. The feeling unsettled her a bit as they walked close. Again she found herself comparing him with James. Yet with Henry, she found herself smiling and giggling all the time.
As they shared her umbrella, shielding them against the cool raindrops, he talked of the battles he’d fought and the friends he’d lost on the front since the war started. She saw the sadness in his eyes. “I’m so sorry,” she said, touching his arm. “I can only imagine how it is on the battlefield.” She didn’t say another word; the horror he lived and saw every day broke her heart.
He gave her a reassuring smile, but she felt his pain and sadness.
The rain stopped. Winnie felt the cold against her cheeks. Yet inside, warmth filled her. She felt the heat of his body radiate and warm her. She enjoyed having Henry with her now. She crooked her arm around his and held on a little more.
For the first time in her life, she didn’t ask any questions or worry about tomorrow.
They reached the park near the Eiffel Tower and sat on a bench while he told her about the men in his company and spoke of their bravery. “We call ourselves Bell’s Bulldogs.” He chuckled. “These men are the finest soldiers in the whole battalion. No. The whole infantry.” He spoke about his fellow soldiers with such pride and brotherly love. His friends. She saw in his sparkling eyes how much he cared for his fellow soldiers. He also talked of his hometown of Calgary. “Alberta is a beautiful province. Mountains and lakes, and nice people.”
She pictured the Rockies with the snow-covered peaks. “Sounds like Heaven.”
“Close enough,” he said, taking her hand in his. He didn’t say another word, but she understood how peace and quiet could be precious to him. She gave his strong lean fingers a light squeeze, hoping he knew how much she cared for him.
As they reached the front door of her apartment just after midnight, he took her hand and brought her fingers against his lips once more. His eyes met hers, and he held her hands between his. Bringing her closer, he warmed her against the chill.
Her breath caught in her throat. She stared at his full lips and wondered what would happen if his tempting mouth kissed her. She closed her eyes for a brief moment, calming her racing heart.
He bent his head and leaned it against hers. “Thank you for spending time with me tonight.” His low voice stirred a new wave of warmth through her.
She bit her lower lip and held her breath in anticipation. With the tip of his thumb, he caressed her lips. Their eyes locked while his warm hand gently cupped her cheek. In a brisk yet gentle gesture, his lips took hers. She trembled under his touch, her hands on his chest, unmoving. His mouth tasted hers as his arms lowered around her, holding her tight against him. She found herself kissing him with such fervor her head spun with desire. Her arms surrounded his neck as she tilted her head, deepening his kiss. A low moan left her mouth as his lips traced her chin and jaw.
“Winnie,” his hot breath whispered against her ear. He held her for a long moment.
She leaned her head against his chest, feeling the warmth of his body through his thick jacket as raindrops fell around them. She closed her eyes and prayed for Henry’s safety and the chance to see him again soon. “Please be careful,” she whispered. “And if you can, please write me.”
“I promise,” he said, holding her even closer. “Take care,” he whispered against her ear before taking her lips hostage once more.
She watched him walk away, breathless and wanting more of his kisses. She believed he’d keep his promise. She removed her glove and touched her swollen and hot lips. And she smiled. Twirling under the rain, she giggled, feeling happy and alive.

Thanks again for doing me the honor of guesting on Romantic Words by Cynthia, Jackie.

I HAVE THE WONDERFUL TINA DONAHUE IN THE HOUSE TODAY!!!

I'm honored to have Tina Donahue in my crib today introducing her latest release, Sinfully Wicked. To make things around here really exciting, she's doing a contest! Details at the end of the post. I'm looking forward to reading more from this talented author, so take it away Tina. . .

It’s All About Passion…

For those of you new to erotic romance – one of the subgenres I write – allow me to state one thing from the start. Erotic romance isn’t about the sex. It really shouldn’t be just about the sex. Sex scenes in this subgenre are the icing on the cake, the cherry on top of the sundae, the period after a sentence. In other words, it’s what’s beneath and what came first that’s the most important in these stories. The thing that matters is the romance, passion, the emotional build between the hero/heroine or in a ménage the heroes/heroine.

Without it, you simply have sex scenes strung together, and trust me that gets boring quickly.

I’ve always worked hard for a rich back story and compelling conflict in my erotic romances. Sensual Stranger, which won the Best Book of 2010 – erotic category – at Blue Moon Reviews is a case in point. The reviewer stated (paraphrasing here) that in some erotic romances if you take away the sex there isn’t any story at all. In Sensual Stranger, the story enhanced the sex.

That’s the way I like it.

For my newest release Sinfully Wicked (available now), I wanted to explore the themes of betrayal and forgiveness for two brothers and the women they both fell in love with in high school. When she comes back into their lives after a fifteen year absence, it’s as if the years have fallen away. The love is still there, but there’s also caution and lingering hurt.

This background provided me with many instances to enrich the plot and the love story between Mitch, Connor and Nikki. It’s what makes it a romance and oh so delicious.

Sinfully Wicked is my second contemporary ménage. IMHO it’s even hotter than SiNN, my first ménage.

Here’s the blurb:

Two brothers—one woman—unforgettable passion…

Years before Nikki fell in love with Mitch and Connor, betraying them as only a high school girl could. Now, she’s back and needs their help.
Powerful and commanding, Mitch has never stopped craving Nikki. Connor hungers for her as badly, but isn’t ready to forgive. If she needs some fast cash by working at their gentlemen’s club, she’ll have to audition by stripping for them.
Aroused by their shameless scrutiny, Nikki’s willing to do whatever it takes to be near them again…even being punished in the BDSM room or starring in one of Connor’s erotic films. Mitch won’t have it, unless he and Connor are the ones mounting and enjoying her.
On a sultry weekend, Nikki surrenders to their lust, dominance and exquisite discipline, reawakening their timeless bond and the beginning of forgiveness.

I HAVE THE WONDERFUL AVRIL ASHTON IN THE HOUSE TODAY!!!

I'm interviewing Avril in the crib today, plus she's sharing an excerpt on her latest release from Evernight Publishing. Sit back and enjoy, oh and when  all is said and done, leave her a little love in a comment or two. So, if you're ready, Avril here goes. . .

CYN:  For any readers who may not have read any of your books, can you just give us a little sneak peak into the world you’ve created; i.e., the genre you write, type of stories you like to write, etc.?

AVRIL:  I’m a naughty type of writer, the one that reads the smutty and writes it. Although, to be fair, it’s not really smut. I write romance with a high heat rating. The blow your hair back and make you pant type. They fall under the genres of paranormal, interracial and homoerotic.

CYN:  Naughty is always niiiice! How much of yourself, if any, do you put into your characters?

AVRIL:  Much of the dialog is me. I love snappy, sexy dialog. Filled with swear words and such. It’s the way I speak it so it’s the way I write it. My love of heels and swear words are all I lend my characters.

CYN:  Well, that makes your voice more real to the readers. Brava! How do you keep sex scenes fresh and exciting so they don't become stale or repetitive? (That is, if you write them.)

AVRIL:  Oh, I write them. I try to allow the characters to dictate what they want and where they want to go. They haven’t disappointed me yet. *knock on wood*

CYN:  I like that. I think your characters are as naughty as you are. LOL Is there a story that you’d like to tell but you think the world isn’t ready to receive it?

AVRIL:  Ah, nope. Not yet, at any rate.

CYN:  What do you do on a typical writing day?

AVRIL:  On a typical writing day, I begin at about 7 am with coffee and music and write until my word count 2-3k is met or until a chapter is completed whichever comes first. I just punch out the words as they come without thought and only when I go back to it in the next writing session will I determine if it’s at all useable. Most times it is.

CYN:  Such dedication. I wish I could sit at one setting and write that much at a time. Do you prefer writing about perfect characters or flawed ones and why?

AVRIL:  Flawed characters are all I write. They are the interesting ones. The ones with scars and shadows and secrets. Perfect characters are boring and I can’t relate to them.

CYN:  Sounds similar to actors who say playing the bad guy is more fun than the good one. When you have writer's block how do you break free?

AVRIL:  I listen to music and read. That never fails to bring me out of my stasis.

CYN:  I do the same. I wonder if that's a common author trait. From the moment you conceived the idea for the story, to the published book, how long did it take?

AVRIL:  Well with this particular book, Make Me Burn, I had the idea in my head while writing its predecessor early last year. It took a while for the characters to open up to me and even when they did, I started and stopped a million times. Other stories got in the way. But it would be almost a year from concept to published. Only because I wrote three other books in between.

CYN:  Thank goodness the muse kept after you to finish. When it comes to writing, are you an early bird, or a night owl?

AVRIL:  I’m both, but more an early bird. I have a school aged kid so bedtime is early. If the story is really humming, I’ll stay up till midnight writing. If not I sit down at about 7:30 am after I put her on the school  bus.

CYN:  Have you ever awakened in the middle of the night with the need to write? If so, how do you deal with this urge?

AVRIL:  Nah. when I’m sleeping, I’m sleeping. But, that quiet moment when you’re waiting to fall asleep brings a lot of story ideas so I keep a pen and notebook under my pillow for those instances.

CYN:  Under your pillow? Never tried that yet, but probably wouldn't work. I'm blind without glasses and definitely wouldn't be able to read anything I attempted to write in the middle of the night the next day! If you could throw a party with any five people (living or dead) who would you pick and why?

AVRIL:  My mother and grandmother, my better half’s father and grandmother, and Nostradamus. Family members cause we love and miss them obviously and Nostradamus because really, he needs to decipher all his riddles.

CYN:  Love those choices. What is the last line of your last WIP you worked on that you wrote?

AVRIL:  This is from a WIP I titled Longing For, an MM piece:  Don’t make me have to tell you again,” Finn threw over his shoulder as he hopped out the vehicle. “Fuck off.”

CYN:  Ooops, there's that naughty dialogue. If you could be one of your characters - Who would you be? And why?

AVRIL:  God, I don’t really want to be any of my characters. The things they have to go through is just…wow. I don’t envy them at all. I love them and I root for them, but they can have all that strife and heartache.

CYN:  That's good. Let our characters take on the stress and headaches instead of us in real life. That works for me. What is one of your guilty pleasures to enjoy?

AVRIL:  None of my pleasures are guilty. I won’t allow it. I read like a maniac. I consume cake in the same vein, and I have a delicious hankering for those naked men humping each other in the UFC under the name of MMA LOL

CYN:  LOL. What are at least five things you have on your bucket list and have you done any of them?

AVRIL:  Travel. Be an editor. Take a road trip. Get another tattoo. Take the kid back to my homeland. I’ve traveled some, not much. Other than that, the list remains.

CYN:  I hope you can cross off all those items, Avril. Do you listen to music when writing? Do you feel like some stories write themselves a soundtrack with specific music? If so, what book and what kind of music influenced it?

AVRIL:  Music is as much a part of my writing process as my computer. It’s an essential part of me and my muse. My stories definitely have a soundtrack and it’s an eclectic mix of dance hall, reggae, hip hop, R&B, and Rock.

CYN:  Okay last one. Tell us five random things about yourself.

AVRIL:  I have the smallest nose. I wear glasses, without them I can see nothing. No matter what the weather is outside, I must be covered from head to toe by the heaviest blanket known to man when in bed. I can’t sleep with the TV or lights on. My feet are always cold, regardless of the weather.

Well, thanks for putting up with my questions and let's get to the important stuff, like your latest release! That's one hot cover too!

MAKE ME BURN

BLURB

It’s been months since Wes Dumont laid eyes on Jayce Santana. Since Jayce kissed him and then left town without a word. Wes tried hard to put the tattered pieces of his heart back together, but another failed relationship makes it clear he’s nowhere near over Jayce. Now Jayce is back, once again tilting Wes’ world on its axis and setting his blood boiling. All the anger and resentment doesn’t hide the hunger, but Wes has been burned before and he’s grown wary of Jayce’s intentions.

Jayce has been running, from Wes and himself, denying the future he sees in the depths of Wes’ eyes. His past still haunts him, but he’s back, ready to fight. Ready to claim Wes the way he should have. Only Wes isn’t making things easy. Both men just may go up in flames before Jayce convinces Wes he’s playing for keeps.

EXCERPT
Wes hopped out the cab, shoulders hunched as he fished his keys out his pocket. Behind him, the driver sped off, burning rubber. He hurried up the driveway, looking forward to an evening spent in a hot bath since he had the house to himself.
Even though his best friend, Ever, hadn’t officially moved in with her man, Simon, she spent most of her time over at his house. After years of it being only the two of them, Wes actually liked the peace and quiet of his suddenly mundane life.
He unlocked the door and stepped inside, flicking on the light as he kicked the door closed. “Freaking cold.” No matter how long he lived in The Windy City he’d always complain about the brick weather. “Freezing my nips off out there.”
“Is that so?”
Wes stumbled backward, crashing into the closed doorway with a stifled scream. His heart pounded like a thousand drums in his ear as he clasped a hand to his throat. “What the fuck?”
“Hello, Wes.” The tone of those two words matched the mockery in the stormy gray eyes perfectly. Seated in Wes’ favorite chair repositioned to face the front door, swathed in black, Jayce Santana watched him with a smirk on those way-too-memorable lips and a gun on his lap. His hair was longer. The scruffy beard and cut above his left eye was new, but nothing else about that cowardly bastard had changed.
Not even Wes’ body’s reaction to him.
“Get out.” His voice shook, so Wes tried again. Louder. Clearer. With more conviction. “Get the fuck out of my house, now.”
Jayce barked a laugh that didn’t reach anywhere near his eyes. “No.”
“You son of a bitch!” Wes advanced on him with angry steps. “You have no right. None. This is my house and if you don’t leave I’m calling the cops.” Six months. One fleeting taste of heaven and his body still hardened in remembrance.
Jayce leaped out the chair at the mention of the cops, stalking Wes with the gun in his hand. Wes braked, fists clenching and unclenching. He didn’t think Jayce would shoot him, but he wasn’t taking any chances. Hard, gray eyes pinned him in place and Jayce stood inches away.
His musk of heat and the hint of a woodsy cologne reached out and touched Wes in his throbbing groin.
He shifted. Jayce grinned.
Bastard.

 BIO

I always wanted to have a sexy bio, one to reflect who I am, but after drawing a blank, I could only come up with: I eat cake and I read books…ooh, and I write ‘em too. No one liked it and after massive peer-pressure and pouting, I managed something more…suitable?

A Caribbean transplant, Avril now lives in Brooklyn, N.Y. with a tolerant Spousal Equivalent. Together they raise an eccentric daughter who loves reading and school (not so much school anymore). Avril’s earliest memories of reading revolve around discussing plot points of The Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys with an equally book-minded mother

Always in love with the written word, Avril finally decided to do the writing in August of ’09 and never looked back. Spicy love scenes, delicious heroes, and wicked women burn up the pages of Avril’s stories, but there’ll always be a happy ending; Av remains a believer of love in all its forms.

Thanks again for stopping by and honoring me with this highlight of your latest release.
