As a warm-up and for those who are new to BDSM, some basic terms. Of course, regionally there may be differences, but these are basic terminology/definition of terms.

Age Play - A type of role play to gratify a fetish surrounding age; typically daddy/child or mommy/child fantasies.

Bondage and Discipline, B&D - A classic term referring to several sexual practices including: bondage, slave training, corporal punishment, and dominant/submissive role play.


Brat - A bottom who enjoys struggling against control or challenging the top. Brattiness has a wide spectrum from the playful 'uppity bottom' to the smart-ass masochist. Some brats are 'testing' their dominant, others have a desire to be 'conquered and tamed,' while some simply do not wish to be controlled.


Cane and Caning - Traditional canes are flexible rattn or bamboo optionally having a leather wrapped handle. modern canes may be plastic or fiberglas. Caning is the art of using a can on a bottom (not derriere, but the one accepting the cane. :))


Clamp, clamping - Nipple clamps, clothespins, and binder clips are used to pinch or squeeze a small bit flesh. The target areas for clamping are nipples, cocks, vulvas, and other erotically sensitive areas such as the sides of the torso and inner thighs. Weights can be added to increase the rigor.


Edge Play - Erotic role play near or at the edge of a submissive's or dominant's limits. The term also refers to activities that carry a higher than usual element of risk.


Fire and Ice - The use of hot and cold for sexual stimulation, especially hot wax dripped from a candle and ice applied to the skin.


Humiliation - Playful embarrassment or humbling a person by teasing them about their sexual desires can be part of erotic control. Humiliation in SM can paradoxically build a person's self-esteem rather than tearing it down by reinforcing their sexuality. Real attacks on a person's self-worth or sexuality, or manipulations designed to break their spirit are abuse not within the appropriate practice of SM.


Limit - The boundaries of SM activities set by both dominant and submissive during negotiation defining what each is willing and unwilling to do within a scene. Limits apply to roles, levels of dominance and submission, and duration of time, as well as physical activities such as whipping, paddling, etc.


Pain Slut - A masochist who derives pleasure from physical pain.


Play - Participating in an SM scene or SM scene activity.


Ponygirl, Ponyboy  - A classic SM fantasy immortalized in art and literature. Typical pony garb includes a horsehair tail attached to a buttplug, a bit gag and/or bridle headharness, and reins. Often very high heels, a corset, and feather plumes in the hair are added. The arms are typically bound behind the back. Pony activities range from being displayed and directed by rein to being ridden or pulling a cart.


Power Exchange - The empowerment of the dominant by the submissive's surrender to his/her control. Power exchange is consensual and should be well-negotiated. The depth of the power yielded by the submissive is equal to level of responsibility assumed by the dominant.


Sensory Deprivation - Restricting or diluting a submissive's ability to use one of more of his/her senses of touch, hearing, sight, taste, or smell as a part of an SM scene.

Violet Wand - A static electricity generator, frequently with multiple glass attachments including: globes, thin tubes, fork-shaped tubes, etc., used to send virtually harmless, violet-colored static 'lightning' to a submissive's skin.

Visualization - The use of storytelling and verbal fantasy sharing to achieve a mood or desired mind set prior to, or during a scene.
*Side note* That's what we authors try to achieve in our writing.


And last but not least the most important thing to know for BDSM:

Safe, Sane, and Consensual - Characterizes the acceptable play within the SM community; players adhere to safety precautions within their activities, do not participate in practices that will injure their partners (mentally or physically), and obtain consent by negotiating scenes and scene related activities before carrying them out.

This list is short, sweet and basic information which may or may not be informative to those reading my blog today. I incorporate these and other terms in my writing of BDSM to be responsible and realistic.

“Attraction? Not likely. It’s just that…well, you’re such a young looking man, I mean vamp, I mean you look like a baby compared to me. I can’t get over this whole concept of vampires living a long time without aging. By the way, how old are you?”

“Does it matter? Suffice it to say, I’m old enough to know how to handle a woman like you.”

“Ooohhh, I don’t need handling and according to my soon to be ex-husband, I’m not worth keeping around either, as you were so quick to point out earlier.”

“He’s a fool. Last night, I discerned beauty and sensuality before I knew who you were. Don’t doubt yourself, Candi. I could spend an eternity making you happy, bringing you endless pleasure, and never tiring doing so. Now that is something you can write about.”

“Hmm. A story between a mortal and a vampire. Do you think the subject characters would make for a good story?” She paused. “I don’t think so.”

“I want to show you how. Say you’ll freely stay and learn, Candi. There is no strength in denial. Choose this. Don’t let your brain talk you out of what you need. If you say yes, then you agree to trust no matter what I ask, I will keep you safe. Let me have a month with you and reveal to you I’m not all bad and how a true master treats his submissive woman.”

“Whoa there. I’m not submissive. I can take care of myself.”

“You think so? My sweet Katje, you are very much a submissive woman and in a month I can teach you how to find happiness and in return, you learn about me and my domain for this book you want to write. You can access my knowledge of vampires enough for a limitless amount of books if you want.” He lowered his hands, stood back, and smiled. “I want to spend time with you, Katje. Let me train you in the way your body begs to live. No, craves to live.” He reached up and ran his fingers from her cheek, down along the jawline, ending at the chin, tilting it up slightly.

“Are you kidding?” She jerked her head from his fingertips. “Spend a month with you? Don’t disguise your ulterior motive for my blood by saying this is for my benefit. You want me to be your meal ticket every night. I don’t think so.”

“I can feed off anyone. I don’t want you for your blood, Candi. I want you for your sex.” He cocked his head, raising a brow, and added, “Although, the sex mixed with the blood is more exciting.”

“Aagh! You think I’m supposed to change my mind after such a crude remark? I’m not staying with you. Not one month. Not one night! I’m leaving now and the piece of paper I signed is worthless.” Again, Candi turned to leave.

Gregori’s patience waned and he rushed by her to block the path to exit, and her face showed a startled reaction. This woman tried his patience, but damn he loved her determination and feistiness. “No, you’re mine by contract, by employment contract, totally enforceable and we can do this easy or hard. Your choice.”

“Employment contract? To do what? Oh, let me guess…sex?”

“Yes, sex would be one part of the agreement, but I will show you my world. I can provide you enough material, you could write ten books, or twenty, whatever your heart’s desire. Say you’ll stay with me.”

“My choice?” She crossed her arms and bit her bottom lip. “I don’t know about this whole arrangement. I don’t have control of my thoughts or body when around you. Don’t deny you’re using mind control shit on me, I know it.”

“I’m not using mind control shit as you say. Come play with me, Candi, for your research…for your pleasure…for one month.”

He watched her struggle with a decision. Listening to her thoughts without coercion seemed strange to him, but he knew his persuasion worked. The idea at first repulsed her, but she couldn’t explain away the strong attraction she harbored for him. This thought pleased him more. “One night?” She countered sheepishly.

Grinning, he trailed his fingers down her cheek to her chin, lifting slightly. “You drive a hard bargain, Candi Hartz. I can start with a week and yes, I’ll tell you everything I know.” Or not.

The haughty grin and self-satisfied expression framing her face spoiled any illusions he had of controlling her tonight. Taking it slow was the way to play with his Kitten.
